- ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪I have a strong family history of macular degeneration so when I get an eye exam, I go to an ophthalmologist. The person who answered my call said "well we are specialists. We don't do routine eye exams." When I explained that I prefer to see an ophthalmologist vs an optometrist, she said "we don't do that."
